David's life is recon- structed in a powerful novel entitled "King of Kings" (Simon and Schuster), the effectiveness of which is emphasized on its being so thoroughly based on the bi- blical background. A universal interest in the impressive personality is recorded in this bril- liantly catalogued record of one of the world's most noted leaders and creators of national powers. A shepherd boy who conquered the Goliath who threatened his people, the lad who rose to power, the warrior who turned poet, whose name also is perpetuated in the Psalms of David, is portrayed in scholarly fashion, by an authority highly qualified to tackle the immense historic sub- ject. The portrayal by Malachi Martin is of the great con- querer, the precursor of Caesar, Alexander and Napoleon. David's strength, beauty, his genius as a battlefield commander and lawmaker, his passionate, restless sex- uality, his cunning, ferocity and courage have made him a legendary figure for both Christians and Jews. The author is pre- eminently fitted to create an authentic picture of David and his era, having spent the first half of his adult life on the actual loca- tions where David had lived WASHINGTON — Bnai Brith International has presented its "Presidential and fought.. A Canadian Media Expert Faults Jews for Arab Image ■ El1111 111 111 1 11 111111111111111111 11 111 111 11 1 1 1111 1 11 1 11 1 111 1 11 11 1 11 1 1 1 1 11 1 1 1 11 11 111 11 11 11 11 1 1 1 111111 11114 Rabbi Robert Abramson, Headmaster Polakoff Wins BB Award • 111•111•11111 TORONTO (JTA) — A Canadian media expert charged last week that the negative image of Arabs on Canadian television_ and newspapers was largely due to extensive Jewish control of the media in the United States on which Canadian editors are heavily depen- dent, and on the political clout of the "New York- Washington Jewish lob- bies" which "make the pro- life and anti-gun control lobbies together look like amateur night." Marie Choquet, an Ot- tawa communications con- sultant, made her remarks to some 60 academicians, diplomats and businessmen from Canada and a dozen Arab countries attending a three-day conference or- ganized by the University of Calgary in conjunction with the International Associa- tion of Middle East Studies and the Union of Arab His- torians. - A spokesman for the Canadian Jewish Congress office in Montreal, asked by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency for- comment said, "we know that such charges form the basis for right- wing anti-Semitic prop- aganda," adding that it coulb be seen as "a form of incitement to hatred." The spokesman said that, on the whole, the Canadian media attitude on Middle. East is- sues was "balanced." The spokesman said that it was unfortunate that "credible and respected individuals made accusations of that sort. contribute to make him remain an image of vio- lence," she said. Choquet said that in the case of the Arabs, television has created two "masks and illusions." One, she said is the "rather primitive and almost illiterate terrorist" and the other is "that of an irresponsible and corrupt billionaire." She said the distortion was aggravated by the fact that only U.S. television networks could afford to maintain permanent crews in many of the world's "hot spots" including the Middle East. The selection of film clips is up to individual news editors, many of whom are Jewish, she said. She added that the major television production cen- ters, New York and Los Angeles, are "carefully and consistently massaged" by what Choquet called the well-organized, well disci- plined Jewish community of the entertainment world and, to some degree, the business world. Canada, she said relies heavily on U.S. "visuals." She observed that it was the nature of the television media to present simplified images which overshadow substance. But she also faulted the Canadian media for poor coverage of interna- tional news events because of the ignorance of reporters and editors. As a result, sl- - said, the Arab cause is k ing the public relations war with the pro-Israel ele- ments. Va. Merger Ms. Choquet also NORFOLK, Va.
