Dr. Kenneth Chelst, chairman of the education committee, made the presentations. The National Council of Teachers of English pre- sented an award for superior performance in writing to Donna Zwas. Donna was also the reci- pient of the National Merit $1,000 Scholarship. State awards include: A Certificate of Merit for High Achievement in Science and Mathematics from the Society of Women Engineers, Donna Zwas; a Michigan Legislative Merit Award from the Michigan State Board of Education, Donna Zwas; Certificates of Recognition from the State of Michigan Competitive Scholarship Program, David Karp, Leonard Katz, Aryeh Koenigsberg, Leah Mayer, Mitchell Weitzman and Donna Zwas. A Regents Alumni Scholar Award from the University of Michigan was presented to Donna Zwas and a Yeshiva Uni- versity scholarship went to Steven Selesny. Berris Award, which is given to an individual in the 11th grade who will partici- pate in the 12th year pro- gram in Israel and has demonstrated excellence in academic studies as well as in community services to school, synagogue and other organizations. Berris, pre- sented the award of $500 to Shani Schreiber. * * * YOUNG ISRAEL OF GREENFIELD will have a youth minyan 10 a.m. Saturday for 6-11-year-olds. Kidush follows. There will be a group for boys in grades three-six 7:50 p.m. Saturday. One of the features of the group will be the study of Mis- hnayos in addition to songs, games and refreshments. A special youth Shalosh Seudos will be held follow- ing Minha at 8:50 p.m. Saturday for all youngsters. Young Israel Teens, Na- tional Conference of Synagogue Youth, will have a Torah study night 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the youth lounge at Young Is- rael of Oak-Woods. Re- 4-eshments will be served. BBYO Activities Sixty-seven Michigan Region BBYOers attended the District 6 BBYO con- vention held in Elkhart Lake, Wis. The convention also fea- tured the finals of several district contests and runoffs for BBYO international contests. In all, Michigan BBYO captured 53 awards, the most of any region pre- sent. The AZA Chai Club in- cludes chapters that have performed 18 hours of com- munity service during the progr6n year. Those receiv- ing recognition from Michi- gan were: Hart AZA; Herzl AZA, Windsor; and Rose AZA. The BBG Mitzva Club includes chapters that have performed 20 hours of community service Those receiving recogni- tion were Ahava BBG; Erani BBG; Glazer BBG; Savage BBG; Shalom Aviv BBG; Shoshanna BBG; and Yachad BBG, Windsor. The District 6 $250 Club recognized those chapters giving that amount or more to the BBYO International Service Fund. Those chap- ters qualifying from Michi- gan Region were Aliyah BBG; Dalyah BBG; Disraeli BBG; Glazer BBG; Herzl AZA, Windsor; Masada BBG; Rose AZA; Savage BBG; Shalom Aviv BBG; Shira BBG; and Yachad BBG, Windsor. Rose AZA was recognized as the AZA chapter giving the largest contribution to ISF of more than $1,600. Glazer BBG was recognized as the BBG chapter giving the largest contributions to ISF of $350. Dalyah BBG was recog- nized as the BBG chapter giving the largest per capita contribution of $13.16 per member.
