31 Parties Compete. for Seats in Election Tuesday

Shorashim could not com-
pete with parties willing to
spend as much as $3,000 per
minute on TV propaganda,
and up to $500,000 per
Knesset member, all told.
The Atzmaut list,
headed by Prof. Ezra
Sohar, wants to aboligh
income tax in order to
make everyone want to
work harder. It also
wants to abolish all sub-
sidies and grants to in-
dustry.
Sohar contends that in
1979 the Treasury collected
IS8.6 billion in income tax
and distributed IS10 billion
in grants and subsidies to
industry.
The best way to end
cheating and "undeclared
income" is to abolish income
tax, says Sohar.
The Likud government
has brought the ugliest side
of Diaspora life to Israel, in
the opinion of author Amos
Oz, who has joined the
Labor bandwagon. "We've
become," he told reporters,
"a little shtetl of speculators
with a nationalist, reli-

gious, bourgeois govern-
ment."

in Election Poll

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Likud has substantially in-
creased its lead over the
Labor Alignment according
to the latest public opinion
poll published in the
Jerusalem Post.
The poll, conducted by the
Modiin Izrahi company fol-
lowing Israel's air attack on
Iraq's nuclear reactor June
7, found that if the elections
were held now, Likud would
win 49 Knesset seats to 37
for Labor.

encourages growth and risk
taking. President Reagan's
