A teen- ager, Guta Blas had jumped at the Nazi officer who was preparing to shoot women prisoners. Guta Blas was taken away and the women pris- oners had presumed she had been shot. When Mrs. Weitzen left the recording booth at the World Gathering and walked to a nearby table to fill out a form, standing nearby was Guta Blas. In the confusion of her at- tack on the officer she was kicked, beaten and a bullet grazed her forehead. She later played dead and her life was saved by an- other prisoner who bribed the commandant with a diamond ring. Guta now lives in North Carolina.
