ANY "SOLE SEARCH-
ING" under way in Met-
ropolitan Detroit came to a
temporary halt this sum-
mer when Meriwether-'s
Restaurant on Telegraph
took on a nautical theme re-
cently and launched its
Fresh Summer Sole Show.
Through Aug. 2,
Meriwether's is featuring a
variety of fresh sole dishes
during lunch and dinner,
from Sole Teriyaki Vegeta-
bles to Summer Sole
Sausalito.
In addition, the restau-
rant has fresh strawberry
drinks and unique straw-
berry desserts . . . including
, a Fresh Strawberry Burrito
and Fresh Strawberry
Yogurt Pie.
Meriwether's Fresh
Summer Sole Show is an
encore to the restaurant's
month-long Fresh As-
paragus and Spring Wine
Festival earlier this year.
Executive Chef Michael
Russell estimates that he'll
use over 2,000 pounds of
sole per restaurant during
the six-week promotion . . .
Fresh sole is being trucked
in directly from Boston at
least three or four times a
week . . . Mike expects to
use about 800 pints of fresh
California strawberries per
restaurant during the same
period.
QUESTIONS AND
ANSWERS . . by Joan
Wittenberg . °
What healthy snacks
can I give my children?
Go to a good health efood
store. They have potato
chips, pretzels, baked goods
Made with whole wheat
flour and honey, nut mixes,

,

candy, dried fruits. The list
is endless — and delicious.
Nutritious too!
What can a woman do
to give herself more
energy, vitality and good
health?
According to.Dr. Richard
Kunin, author of "Mega-
Nutrition," many health
problems in women includ-
ing fatigue, low blood sugar,
headaches, menstrual ir-
regularities, hormonal im-
balances and inhibited sex
drive may be related to in-
adequacies prevalent in the
standard American diet.
He says the supervised
use of vitamin supplements
and a- diet tailored to your
needs will help immensely.
Is it true exercise can
make - you feel younger?
A Stanford U. doctor
gays there is a sharp reduc-
tion in heart attacks in
those who manage to burn
up to 2,000-3,000 calories
weekly. Exercise helps im-
prove the flow of blood to the
brain, increases muscle
strength and makes the
heart work more efficiently.
MYSTERY
THE
MUNCHER writes .. .
"Onions to waiters and
waitresses who argue when
you send back your roast
beef because it's cold and re-
turn it two seconds later
with the same temperature.
"Orchids to restaurants
that do things just a little
bit nicer like serving slibes
of fresh fruit on your plate
and after-dinner chocolate
mints on a silver candy dish.
"Onions to those cutesy,
gimmicky eateries with so
many gadgets they look like
over stuffed museums. Ev-
erything seems plastic from
the brie a brat to the food.
"Orchids to restau-
rants with understated
decors where you're not
distracted by knicknacks
and you can enjoy your
dinner in peaceful sur-
roundings.
"Onions to chefs who
don't know the difference
between rare, medium or
well-done steaks. To some
it's either charred or raw —
nothing in between.
"Orchids to waitresses
and waiters who don't make
a fuss about bending the
rules and substituting
something less fattening for
potatoes if you're dieting.
"Onions to chefs who
douse inferior meat with
wine and heavy sauces and
call it gourmet.
"Orchids to a few restau-
rants that still serve re-
lishes, herring, cottage
cheese, kidney beans with
onions or antipasto to take
the edge off your hunger
pains before dinner. Among
these establishments are
Carl's Chop House, Joe
Muer's and Larco's."
