Dutch Refuse
Sinai Force

AMSTERDAM (JTA) —
The Netherlands Govern-
ment has declined on
American request that it
supply troops for the multi-
national force that is to
police Sinai after Israel
completes its withdrawal
from the peninsula in April
1982.
The reason given is that
Holland has already con-
ributed 800 soldiers to the
nited Nations Interim
Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Brazil Rabbi Assesses Argentina

NEW YORK — Rabbi
Henry I. Sobel of Brazil,
speaking to members of the
Zionist Organizaton of
America last week, ex-
pressed a personal point of
view that Jacobo Timerman
"deserves praise, however,
the obsession of South
American military juntas is
not with Jews, but with
Communists. They don't
want Communists to rule
their countries."
His ordeal was not
caused by his being a Jew;

arrest was due to his
political views and not
because he was Jewish."
"It's time to stop talking
about Timerman and focus
on the Jewish internal front
in Latin America," declared
Rabbi Sobel. "Let's convert
the Timerman case into ac-
tion of more awareness,
more involvement, more
self-help."
Rabbi Sobel who is the
spiritual leader of Con-
gregacio Israelita Paulists
in Sao Paulo, the largest
congregation in Latin
America, described what he
called "the internal front"
in Latin America as "an
ever increasing division in
the Jewish community be-
tween the conservative es-
tablishment and the intel-
lectuals and youth, margi-
nal involvement in Jewish
life and the 50 percent in-
termarriage rate.

Timerman, editor and
publisher of the liberal
newspaper La Opinion, was
kidnapped by Argentine se-
curity forces in 1977 and
held without charge until
his expulsion from Argen-

Rabbi Sobel who is
active in the World
Jewish Congress and the
General Zionist move-
ment in Latin America,
said "Jews in South
America belong to the

tries. They are conserva-
