Greetings for the Red Cross

BEERSHEBA — Ben-
Gurion University's Jacob
Blaustein Institute for Des-
ert Research was inaugu-
rated last month in cere-
monies at the school's Sde
Boker campus.
The research facility is
named after Baltimore
industrialist Jacob Blaus-
tein, who died last year.

Character must stand be-
hind and back up ,every-
thing — the sermon, the
poem, the picture, the play.
None of them is worth a
straw without it.

AJCongress Joins
ACLU Challenge
to Arkansas Law

NEW YORK — The
American Jewish Congress
has joined the American
Civil Liberties Union in
challenging an Arkansas
state law that requires that
"creation science" be given
balanced treatment with
the teaching of the theory of
evolution in public schools.
"Notwithstanding the
numerous disclaimers em-
bodied in the language of
the law, the Creationism
Act as approved recently by
the Arkansas Legislature in
fact mandates instruction
in a particular religious
doctrine," according to
Nathan Z. Dershowitz, di-
rector of the American
Jewish Congress Commis-
sion on Law and Social Ac-
tion.
