Federation President
George M. Zeltzer congratu-
lated the Women's Division
on its excellent year of
achievement, particularly
on behalf of the 1981 Allied
Jewish Campaign. To date,
the division has raised
$2,467,000 for a 12 percent
increase over last year's to-
tals. In addition, $87,000
was contributed in 1981 to
the Israel social reconstruc-

member of the United
Jewish Appeal Women's
Division. She praised the
women for their Campaign
success, saying "Detroit is
the yardstick by which
other communities measure
themselves."
Mrs. Scott expressed her
concern that conditions in
the world have dramati-
cally worsened for Jews of
late, comparable to the
situation in 1938. At the
same time, however, she af-
firmed that Israel's exist-
ence today gives Jews a
source of pride and power.
She encouraged the
gathering to keep up its ef-
forts on behalf of Campaign,
starting her hope that in the
future "your grandchild-
dren and mine will be sol-
iciting each other." Women
in communities like Detroit
are "writing ourselves into
Jewish history" with the
checks they write to benefit
their fellow Jews in a "very
small world indeed," said
Mrs. Scott.
