elected president of the In-
ternational Cooperative
Education Association for
1981-1982.

She's a Cantor, He'll Be a Rabbi,
They'll Officiate at Temple Israel

The rabbis of Temple Is-
rael have invited Cantor
Alane Simons and Jan Kat-
zew to participate in the
service of worship on the
Sabbath that immediately

precedes their wedding day.
Cantor Simons will join
Cantor Harold Orbach in
singing the liturgy at serv-
ices 8:30 p.m. June 12. Kat-
zew will deliver the sermon
on the subject, "A Labor of
Love.

Cantor Simons received
her investiture from the
School of Sacred Music at
ceremonies May 31 at Tem-
ple Emanu-El in New York
City. Her fiance is a
fourth-year rabbinical stu-
dent at Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of
Religion in Cincinnati.
Cantor Simons is a
graduate of the Temple
Israel Religious School
where she was also Bat
Mitzva and confirmed.

she sang with the Festival
Choir and participated in its
European concert tour,
Cantor Simons enrolled at
the HUC-JIR School of Sac-
red Music in New York.
As a third-year student,
she won a scholarship to the
HUC-JIR Jerusalem
School, and spent a year as
the school's assistant can-
tor. She also pursued vocal
studies at the Rubin
Academy.
She has served as a
student cantor in Terre
Haute, Ind.; Floral Park,
N.Y.; Brooklyn, N.Y.; and,
most recently, at Temple
Emanu-El, Waterford,
Conn.
The recipient of numer-
ous awards and prizes for
scholastic and musical ex-
cellence, Cantor Simons has
participated in several
productions with the
Oratorio Society of New
York, and is a private stu-
dent of John Kuhn, profes-
sor of music at New York
University.
After her marriage, Can-
tor Simons will assume a
position at Temple Israel,
Columbus, Ohio, where she
will be the first cantor in the
history of that congrega-
tion. •

Brockton, Mass., and is a
magna cum laude graduate
of Wesleyan University, in
Middlebury, Conn.
He has served as stu-
dent rabbi of Temple
Bnai El, St. Louis, Mo.,

singer, Katzew has been
cantorial soloist at Tem-
ple Shalom in Cincinnati
and soloist with the HUC
Choir in Jerusalem.
Cantor Simons is the
daughter of Frank L. Si-
mons, executive director of
Temple Israel, and Mrs.
Lucy Simons, of Oak Park.
Katzew's parents are
Charles and Dr. Amy Kat-
zew of Brockton.
