THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Israeli Lawyer Analyzes PLO Terrorism cade ago, addressing a luncheon meeting arranged by the Detroit Chapter of the American Jewish Committee, held at the offices of Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn last Friday, gave an analysis of the spread of terrorism and told how incitement to fears inspired the current Arab terrorist activities. Terrorism, he said, is not limited to the extreme left and terrorists have no social philosophy in their actions. "Indis- criminate terror has un- fortunately become a fashion in the world." The respectability given to terrorists in some areas of the world was especially de- plored by Dr. Akzin. Israel, he declared, is especially concerned about it because Detroiter to Wed New York Miss she is more vulnerable to it. According to Dr. Akzin, a genuinely independent Lebanon is the mutual con- cern of Israel and the United States. Their con- cern is to keep Lebanon in- dependent, politically free from entanglement with the socially radical Arabic ele- ment. Tracing the history of PLO involvements in Leba- non after they were ousted from Jordan, Dr. Akzin de- scribed how the PLO had made Lebanon its major base, thus forcing Israel to act in preventing the spread of their terrorism. In his review of the con- flict with Syria, Dr. Akzin said Israeli opinion is entirely united in the aim to stop Syrian encroachment on Leba- non. Dr. Akzin, a former dean of the Hebrew University Law School and a Haifa University dean, pioneered in the founding of the Likud political party and had been a close associate of Vladimir Jabotinsky in the Re- visionist Zionist movement. He was among Menahem Begin's closest associates in Herut. In the U.S. in the 1930s he was a law professor at New York University. He is retired from his academic duties and resides in Jerusalem.
