Each window is divided into a series of individual panels, with 12 of the panels representing the 12 tribes of Israel. The kinetic nature of the design creates the illu- sion of changing shape and color as the viewer moves past each window. Phone 353-1300 It is customary to deco- rate the synagogue with vegetation for the Shavuot holiday. Some put branches of trees around the ark and the platform of the synagogue. Others even put small trees there. Some claim that this is done as a reminder that when the Torah was given at Mount Sinai; the, bare mountain was suddenly covered with greens and vegetation. Since Shavuot is the an- niversary of the Revelation at Mount Sinai, the scene is recalled by the establish- ment of greens in the synagogue for that day. Others claim that this cus- tom is a reminder that in the days of the temple in Jerusalem the first fruits were brought to the temple and they were decorated with greens and flowers. It is also customary to eat dairy foods and honey on Shavuot. It is claimed that when the Revelation took place the Torah was compared to milk and honey. It is also claimed that the reason for- having dairy at some of the meals of the holiday while meat is eaten at other meals is because it serves as a re- minder of the two loaves that were brought to the temple as an offering on the Shavuot holiday; one as a bread for meat meals and one for dairy meals (Rama). The department charged last week that Otto Albrecht Alfred von Bolschwing, 72, who be- came a U.S. citizen in 1952, illegally obtained citizen- ship by lying about his Nazi activity. In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Sac- ramento, the department said Von Bolschwing, of Carmichael, had worked with Adolph Eichmann in planning programs of per- secution and forced immi- gration of Jews. Eichmann was captured by Israelis in Argentina in 1960 and exe- cuted in Israel in 1962 after a long trial. The Justice Department charged that ,Von Bolschw- ing was not a person of good moral character because of his participation "in the Nazi policy of racial, reli- gious and political persecu- tion ... and because he pro- cured his citizenship by con- cealment of material facts." - Nazi Vandalism at Florida Campus TAMPA, Fla. (JTA) (JTA)- The University of South Florida campus was van- dalized by anti-Semitic slo- gans and swastikas in early May. According to the Jewish Floridian, the swastikas and Nazi slogans were found chalked on a blackboard and on the back of chairs in the Business School auditorium. USF police believe that the inci- dent was "minor" and unre- lated to the 40 anti-Semitic incidents which occured on the campus and at the homes of USF professors be- tween 1977 and last year.
