° ' Tilt' DETROIT lEilISH rNEWS Exhibit Extended CHICAGO — The exhibit "Danzig 1939: Treasures of A Destroyed Community7 will be extended through Aug. 2, at the Spertus Museum of Judaica. The. exhibit traces the his,tory of the Danzig Jewish community through artifacts and ceremonial ob- jects from the Great Synagogue as well as docu- ments, photographs and taped interviews. All help relate the story of the once thriving, cultured, German/East European ish community from the ) century to the Nazi era. A 144-page catalogue, illustrated with 73 black and white and eight color photographs, includes an essay by - the noted author Gunther Grass. The cat- logue and a four-color poster are available -for purchase at the museum store. The Spertus Museum --of Judaica is located at 618 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. The design is an abstract pair of posts, comprising an arch as both a reminder of the concrete posts in the Nazi death camps and a re- presentation of a male and female figure, heads down. Behind the arch is a granite wall with a bleeding Star of David, representing the ir- reparable damage inflicted on the Jewish people by the Nazi genocide machine.
