In 1956, at age 60, Golds- tein began serving the tem- ple as a lay rabbi, officiating at Bnai and Bnot Mitzva. According to the Monroe Evening News, Goldstein came to Monroe every two weeks for about 20 years to conduct services. He also came on Jewish holidays. Recently he spread his vis- its out so that services were held every three weeks until earlier this month when he announced his re- tirement. Previously, Goldstein conducted services at Temple Israel when it was located in Detroit. He earned bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Michigan and began practicing law in 1919.
