written in gratitude
for Mrs. Norman Cottler
"What am I? I'm sixteen years old and never knew.
Now yoU say because my Mother's Jewish
I always was and always will be a Jew?
Wiping her hands against her blue jeans_
She took the Shabbos candle I offered.
Oblivious of the busy shopping center,
She learned about Shabbos and
how to pronounce the candle
blessings — then disappeared.
Suddenly I heard her voice and sakher tear streaked
face. Holding one candle high above the crowd, she
shouted: "Hey world! I'm a Jew! And to prove it, I'm
gonna light Shabbos candles forever!"
A Jewish daughter had come home.

Thanks to Mrs. Norman Cottler in the last few years,
over 10,000 Shabbos candles have been distributed.
Many Jewish daughters have come home.
