The entire event celeb- rates the culmination of De- troit's participation in the Rabbi Leo Jung Forest in Safed, Israel. In 1979, the Rabbinical Council of America, of which Rabbi Jung is a past president, inaugurated the Rabbi Leo Jung Forest. Of Dec. 2, 1979, Rabbi Jung came to Detroit to person- ally acknowledge at a dinner in his honor, the ini- tial gift of 18,000 trees planted by Abraham Gubin and his sister, Cypojra. At this time, the rabbis of the RCA made plans for the continued development of this project. As a result, during the weekend Scholars' Festival announcement will be made of the following projects undertaken in the. Rabbi Jung Forest: The estab- RABBI ROTHENBERG lishment of the Cong. Bnai David Forest; the Young Is- rael of Greenfield Forest; the Young Israel of Oak Woods Woodland; the Beth Tefilo Emanuel Tikvah Grove; the Beth Abraham Hillel Moses Religious School Grove. The program for the weekend is as follows: At 9 a.m. Saturday, Rabbi Landman will be at Cong. Beth Tefilo Emanuel Tik- vah to deliver the guest sermon as the congregation honors its rabbi, Leizer Levin with a grove in his name. At 7:30 p.m. that evening, Rabbi Landman will speak on "The Israel Connection — A Hidden Mitzva" at Young Israel of Greenfield. Following that he will ad- dress a gathering of RCA rabbis and their wives at a melava malka. On Sunday at 10 a.m., he will address a public convo- cation on "The Zionist Con- nection — A Hidden Zad- dik." A light breakfast will precede his lecture. There is a nominal charge. Throughout the Lag b'Omer weekend, Rabbi Landman, together with Rabbi Emanuel Rothen- berg, the director of the religious department of the - Jewish National Fund of America, will meet with students and adults. Among the groups represented at the organ- izational meeting were: Jewish Human Rights Council from Michigan State University, Bnai Brith Hillel Foundation at Wayne State University, University of Michigan Union of Students for Israel and Jewish student groups from Oakland Community College and Lansing Com- munity College. Jewish students from Grand Valley College also hold membership in the group. The students endorsed a Jerusalem Program which declared the -unity of the Jewish people and the cen- trality of Israel, support for aliya, Hebrew educat:-)i -f, and Jewish cultural v s and protection of JewiSh rights..
