Bar-Ilan Effort Aids Senior Citizens RAMAT GAN — Nearly 80 students have volun- teered their services for Bar-Ilan University's Kesher project, a new pro- gram which represents the school's continued effort to reach out to senior citizens living within the campus community. The volunteers visit el- derly citizens who make their homes in the area, per- form various household chores for them and provide companionship for the often-lonely senior citizens. The students involved in the Kesher project receive the same scholarships given to students who work for Pera, a tutoring project for school-age children. Additionally, an award will be presented annually to a member publication or individual for journalistic integrity in honor of the AJPA's "respected colleague" Joseph palakoff who re- tired last month as the Jewish Telegraphic Agency's Washington bureau chief: The ALPA Golda Meir Award was presented to Philip Slomovitz, publisher and editor of The Detroit Jewish News, who was un- able to attend the meeting. WB Disturbance on Israel's 33rd JERUSALEM (JTA) — Political unrest on the West Bank intensified last weekend as Arabs marked the May 15 anniversary date of the establishment of the State of Israel. High school students in Ramallah and El Bira, as well as students from the Bir Zeit University, set up roadblocks and hurled stones at passing vehicles. Similar demonstrations took place at the Kalandiya refugee camp near in and Jerusalem Bethlehem. twice per week for a minimum of two hours each time. "Kesher," the Hebrew word for "knot," was chosen as the name for the program because of the close contact established between the student and the older per- son. The specific duties of the volunteers have been deliberately left undefined, leaving room for personal initiative. One student gave Hebrew lessons to her client at the older woman's re- quest and another studied Talmud with his elderly, blind client. The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; and it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. OROBRONZE THE TAN YOU TAKE GORDNER'S PHARMACY LTD.
