Jonathan David Pub-
lishers has re-printed two
favorite children's stories in
paperback: The Kidush
Cup Who Hated Wine" by
Byrd Salop and "The Mys-
tery of the Missing Hallah"
by Freda Charles.
An unhappy cup saddens
his friends in the cupboard
because he hates wine. "It's
cold! Ifs sticky! It's thick!"
he eomplains. "It sticks to
my insides like glue! I can't
even move! It's horrible."
After futile efforts by
Yarmulke, Menora and
other friends in the cup-
board, the kidush cup is fi-
nally helped with his prob-
lem by Prayer Book and his
Magic Aleph.
Report Claims
OPEC Power
Diminished
NEW YORK — Although
the Iran-Iraq conflict has
reduced the overall produc-
tion of OPEC (Organization
of Petroleum Exporting
Countries) oil, experts are
convinced that oil market
economics have diminished
OPEC's power over Western
consumer nations, accord-
ing to the latest issue of
Petro Impact, a bi-monthly
publication of the American
Jewish Committee's Insti-
tute of Human Relations.
While production in Iran
and Iraq has lessened, de-
mand for oil has fallen
sharply by the indus-
trialized nations as a result
of increased fuel efficiency,
conservation and technolog-
ical advances. This has
helped to create the present
oil glut. In 1980, oil demand
dropped seven percent in
the United States, 13 per-
cent in Britain, six percent
in France and nine percent
in Japan, the publication
reported.
AAJE Expanding
Sabbath Program
NEW YORK (JTA) —
The American Association
for Jewish Education
(AAJE) will expand into 29
more Jewish communities
this fall its innovative home
subscription program,
"Home Start," to foster
greater family participation
in Jewish holiday and Sab-
bath observances.
The "Home Start" pro-
gram was available through
United Hebrew Schools in
Detroit this year and it will
be made available again in
the fall. Detroit was among
the first 15 communities to
sponsor the program and
160 Detroit area families
participated.
Materials are sent to the
families to further Sabbath
observance.
Visitor Exchange
TEL AVIV — Some
13,000 Israelis visited
Egypt during the first three
months of 1981, compared
to 15,000 who visited Egypt
in the 12 months of 1980.
Some 1,500 Egyptians vi-
sited Israel during the first
12 months of open borders
between the two countries.
This delightful story
brings to life for children
many of the ceremonial
objects used for Sabbath,
Passover and Hanuka.
Lil Goldstein drew the
simple colorful illustrations
that add immeasurably to
both of these paperback
volumes.
"The Mystery of the Mis-
sing Hallah" is a delightful
children's tale of a family

preparing for the Sabbath
and Hanuka. The happy
family's preparations turn
to sadness when their spe-
cial halla cannot be found at
the bakery. Little Bayla fi-
nally unwraps the mystery.
