THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, May 15, 1981 41 Mike and Mary Must Honorees at Shaare Zedek Dinner The guest of honor at the an- nual dinner of the Detroit Friends of Shaare Zedek Hospital once stated "I would rather do the most that I can do for only a few organizations than spread my- self too thin over many organiza- tions." Fortunate are the groups Mike Must has chosen as worthwhile causes for his unlimited energy and total devotion. Inspired by his parents from early childhood on, his first con- cern is his work for the Synagogue and here it makes no difference what position he holds, President, first, second, third Vice President or Executive Director. For B'Nai David he is always a tower of strength. The other main concern of Mike Must is the Jewish Com- munity. The Allied Jewish Cam- paign, many local and national educational institutions are reci- pients of his generosity. Zion and Zionism is for him not a sentimental idea. He has ar- rived at the conclusion that the welfare of the Jew throughout the world is dependent on a strong State of Israel. His exemplary in- volvement in the Israel Bond Organization as a member of the Prime Minister's and Century Clubs is an expression of this conviction. In recognition of his service to Israel he received in 1977 - the "United Jerusalem" Award. In 1969 the Musts planted a Woodland in Israel in memory of his parents Abraham and Sophie Must, through the Jewish Na- tional Fund. The honoree is president of the Detroit City Dairy, Incorporated. Mary has been active in the firm for over 30 years. Their two sons Joel and Alan and son-in-law Louis Seligman married to daughter Madalon, assist in the operation of the dairy company, and the senior Musts are active members of the National Food Distributors Association and the Associated Food Dealers. Mary Must participates in the Sisterhood of B'Nai David and only recently made a major con- tribution to the Holocaust Memo- rial in memory of her parents Morris and Mali Hoffman. For many years Mike and Mary Must have been concerned about the health care in Israel. As Life members of the Detroit Friends of Shaare Zedek Hospi- tal they generously contributed towards the building of the New Shaare-Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. We salute our hon- orees Mike and Mary Must and wish them continued good health for many years to come. - Vox 5o6i411)inner Congreitaioll Bnaiallid ckititafteld,'llli4m 7detfitesikyfulte 17; 1981 sip= fllir ~~ 2n tie aeniy- ,:f iformatiom, cad - 544-8412 President's Message Mr. Max Sosin, Chairman of the Annual Dinner of the Detroit Friends of Shaare Zedek Hospi- tal in Jerusalem, is a close friend and co-worker of our honorees. They share common interest in their work for Congregation B'Nai David, their community and their enthusiastic support for the State of Israel. Max Sosin, a former president of B'Nai David, is an honorary Max Sosin, Dinner Chairman president of the Brandeis Lodge of B'nai B'rith, an honorary member of Congregation Beth Abraham, a member of the Metro Detroit Israel 'Bonds executive board and an honorary member of the staff of Brent Hospital. Together with his wife Ruth, he will lead a delegation of promi- nent local leaders who will attend the gala International 30th An- niversary Leadership Confer- ence of the Israel Bond Organ- ization to be held in Israel August 10-20. During his frequent trips to Is- rael Max Sosin always includes a visit to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center. He therefore is very well acquainted with the importance of this modern medical institution as well as the many problems it faces at these difficult times. We appreciate his readiness to serve as this year's Dinner chairman and hope that the many Detroiters who have been inspired by his heartwarming concern for his fellow Jews. ex- pressed in delightful stories at so many occasions, will answer his call to help the Shaare Zedek „Hospital. The Detroit community can be proud of its contribution to the human and material resources that went into the building of the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. We have forged ahead during the last few years and we are now in the forefront among American communities. Our continuing growth can be attributed to the exceptional dedication of our workers. The high caliber of our effort is de- monatrated by the fact that it is all voluntary. We maintain no paid office or director. The future presents a chal- lenge. The hospital has to be completed. People need healing. Newly discovered techniques and technology and some almost miraculous facilities stand ready to bring healing to the people of Jerusalem. Of equal importance is the irn- mediate impact that projects, endowments and nurses schol- arship have Upon ourselves, for when we care most, we accom- plish most. I thank all our found- ers and donors. I appeal to the community that it continue to help shape and mold the destiny of the great Shaare Zedek Medi- cal Center in Jerusalem. At this years Annual Banquet we have come full circle, Shaare Zedek fundraising had its begin- ning in Congregation B'Nai David. From that small beginning we are now embraced by a city wide community. Out banquet will take place at B'Nai David and our guests of honor are pillars of strength at this synagogue. The guests of honor are my friends Mike and Mary Must. I congratulate Mike and Mary - and wish them good health, long life and the greatest "nachas" from their children and grandchildren.
