JERUSALEM (JNI) — A
suspect arrested in Israel
now has the right to remain
silent during interrogation,
but police do not have to in- -
form him or her of that
right, under a new amend-
ment to the criminal proce-
dure law which the Knesset
passed April 1. The
amendment also enables
detainees to contact an at-
torney or their relatives
immediately after their de-
tention.
