Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

MAX SOSIN was in Bis-
cayne Medical Hospital,
North Miami Beach . . . oc-
cupying a semi-private
room the day before he was
to have a prostrate opera-
tion . . . He suddenly heard
a commotion outside . . . and
a man in a wheelchair yel-
ing, "I don't want this
room!" . . . Turned out to be
Nate Maxman . . . joking, of
course ... They've been
friends for 40 years.
When Max is honored
June 10 as Israel Bonds
Man of The Year by Cong.
Bnai David, it will be a re-
peat performance for him
. . . Max was Bnai David's
first Israel Bonds honoree
IT WAS ALMOST 11
p.m. . . . hardly a time to
need air in one's auto tire
. . . especially since few gas
stations go out of their way
to give air nowadays . . . let
alone do it when the station
is closing . . . Luckily, we
were near Charlie Robin-
son's Shell Station on Nine
Mile and Greenfield when
the almost flat was noticed.

Charlie wasn't there, but
his employees are trained to
give service at all times .. .
and so the much-needed air
was received without a sec-
ond word . . . except advice
not to remove the nail until
next day . . . and at a station
with air.
Thanks to Charlie and his
employees for not forgetting
that service is still number
one.
LES BALL, former De-
troiter, has been elected
chairman of the board and
chief executive officer of
Macy's Midwest . . . taking
in Kansas, Mis.souri and
Ohio . . . Les, making the
jump over presidency from
senior vice president, lives
in Kansas City with wife
Fran and their three chil-
dren.
WHILE WEEKEND va-
cationing recently in Char-
levoix with daughter and
son-in-law Bunny and Dr.
Allan Nickamin ... . Ann
Woolf (Sammy) had a sore
foot . . . Allan being a foot
doctor wanted it wrapped in
ice . . . which Bunny
promptly did . . . Ann won-
dered where she got the ice
so fast . . . and found out
when told her foot was
wrapped in frozen hot dogs!
MEETING IS MAY 30
for Central High 1942 Reu-
nion of January and June
classes... at home of
Edythe B orin Rosner .. .
968-1973 . . . Or call Elaine
Danto Lacoff, 968-0471.
IN DAYS PAST, the
man who saved money was
a miser . . . Today,. he's a
wonder.
TWENTY-FIRST AN-
NUAL Huntington Woods
Art Fair begins May 16 with
an art preview, 7 to 9 p.m.
. . . followed by an art auc-
tion, 9 p.m.. . . The fair con-
tinues May 17, 10 a.m. to 5

p.m.
It'll be held this year in
the Huntington Woods Rec-
reation Center and Burton
Elementary School, both lo-
cated near the intersection
of Scotia and Hart in Hun-
tington Woods' . . . The art
auction will be in the base-
ment of the Huntington
Woods Library . . . with
Barry Waldman auctioning
off works from exhibiting
artists.
GALILEE CHAPTER,
Bnai Brith Women, is in
the process of finishing
writing their third play .. .
to be entitled, "The
Mayven." . . . Rehearsals
will soon begin.
LOOKING BACK ON
COLUMNS
Of Yes-
teryears.
May 28, 1965 . . . "In
front of her home on
Coolidge and Northfield in
Oak Park, Sally Green has a
`Room For Rent' sign . . . Re-
cently, she watched as a
duck and four ducklings
waddled on the lawn as
though coming to rent the
room . . . They had escaped
from the zoo and created
quite a turmoil stopping
traffic as they strutted
across the street, while
picture-takers enjoyed a
camera-clicking field_day.
"The mother and
ducklings were finally
caught in the bushes of Sal-
ly's home . . . and taken
back to the zoo where the
rent is free."
July 2, 1965 . . . "Herman
Slaysky has a Cadillac
equipped with a Twilight
Sentinel — a gadget that
automatically turns off your
headlights after you switch
off the ignition . . .
"The other night, he
parked on a downtown
street and a woman called
after him as he walked
away, 'Oh, mister, you left
your lights on' . . . Herman
timed it perfectly . . . Count-
ing off the seconds he turned
around, pursed his lips and
loudly 'blew' out the head-
lights . . . Far as he knows,
the woman is still standing
there, bug-eyed!"
July 16, 1965 . . . "On his
first visit to the zoo, re-
cently, little Avery Marcus,
son of Shirley and Roy Mar-
cus, stared at a stork for a
while, then turned to Roy
and said, 'Gee, Dad, he
doesn't recognize me.' "
July 16, 1965 . . . " 'Ev-
erybody's a comic today,'
sighs TV gag writer and an-
nouncer Rube Weiss .. .
`When I asked my wife, Are
you going to straighten up
the house? she answered,
Why — is it tilted?' "
CONGRATS . . . to Shir-
ley and Ray Abrams . . . on
anniversary number 33.
