Studying Common Problems

The Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration of Detroit and the
Synagogue Council of
Greater Detroit have
created a Federation
Synagogue Council Ad Hoc
Committee in order to es-
tablish an ongoing relation-
ship between the Federa-
tion and the Synagogue
Council, to more compe-
tently attend to many mat-
ters confronting the Jewish
community and to provide a
forum for a dialogue be-
tween the Federation and
the synagogues/ temples in

the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion and Jack Schon of the
Synagogue Council.
The Ad Hoc Committee is
studying the unaffiliated
Jews of our community; the
acculturation of the Rus-
sian refugees into commu-
nity and congregational
life; Jewish education qual-
ity, standards, curriculum
and staff; and the problems
of the single parent family.

RABBI GILLMAN

the department of Hebrew
culture and education at
New York University.
Rabbi Gillman was
graduated from McGill
University in Montreal in
1954 with honors in French
and philosophy. He was or-
dained at the seminary in
1960 and earned a PhD de-
gree in philosophy at
Columbia University in
1975.
Rabbi Gillman teaches
in the adult education
program at the Park
Aveniie Synagogue in
New York City and at the
Teaneck Jewish Center
in Teaneck, N.J. He has
served as scholar-in-
residence for adult edu-
cation weekend retreats
in many cities across the
country. He served on the
faculty of the Women's
League Institute and cur-
rently teaches at the sem-
inary — Women's League
Institute in Philadelphia.
Rabbi Gilman was desig-
nated a university scholar
at McGill University in
1952 and 1953. In 1960, he
was awarded a fellowship
by the National Foundation
of Jewish Culture and in
1963, he was awarded a
Kent Fellowship by the
Danforth Foundation. At_
the seminary, Rabbi Gil-
man was a fellow of the
Herbert H. Lehman Insti-
tute from 1957 to 1960.

Bibles Nixed

enrolled in Van Buren
Township public schools if
the American Civil Liber-
ties Union (ACLU) goes to
court to block the action, ac-
cording to Michigan ACLU

Holocaust Focus of Sunday
Program at Shaarey Zedek

Zedek on =-"reaching Our
Children About the
Holocaust" 9 and 11 a.m.

As an adjunct to her talk
and discussion, the Student
Drama Group of Shaarey
Zedek will present the
award-winning radio and
television drama, "I Never
Saw Another Butterfly."
Dr. Eichner teaches and
lectures throughout the
area on the Holocaust.
"I Never Saw Another
Butterfly" is the story of
thousands of children
who passed through the
concentration camps.
The drama group is led
by Geri Levit. The actors
in this presentation in-
