Court Rejects
Hebron Appeal •

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Israel Supreme Court
has rejected an appeal by 16
Arab residents of Hebron
for the eviction of Jewish
Kiryat
settlers of
Arba from
from the former
Hadassah building they
have been occupying for
nearly two years. The appel-
lants contended that the
settlers had no legal right to
occupy the .-building and
charged that they were
harassing Arabs in the
neighborhood.
Justice Miriam Ben-
Porat found that most of the
complaints contained in the
appeal were without found-
ation. Nevertheless, the
high court's decision re-
ferred specifically to the
promise by the military
government that appropri-
ate action would be taken to
see to it that there is no
harassment.

Ally Returns

TEL AVIV (JTA) —
Yaacov Meridor, a former
leader of the Irgun and the
Herut Party, is to return to
the political field after
many years during which
he concentrated on business
affairs.
Meridor agreed to an ap-
peal by Premier Menahem
Begin to return to active
political life, offering him a
senior position in the next
Cabinet if Begin is re-
elected in June.

Papal Nominee

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Pope John Paul II appointed
Dr. Eugene Fisher, execu-
tive director of the Office of
Catholic-Jewish Relations
of the National Conference
of Catholic Bishops
(NCCB), as a consultor to
the Vatican Commission for
Religious Relations with
Judaism.
Fisher, 37, is the first
NCCB staff member and the
first Catholic layperson
from the United States ap-
pointed a consultor to the
commission. The only other
American among 10 chur-
chmen and theologians
from throughout the world
who serve the commission
in this capacity is Bishop
Bernard Law of
Springfield-Cape Girar-
deau, Mo.
