THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS American Legendary Heroes Featured in Center Puppet Show The Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan De- troit and the Detroit Insti- tute of Arts will present "Johnny, Paul and Dan'1" — a story of America's legen- dary heroes as performed by the Melikin Puppets of Chicago 2 p.m. Sunday at the main Center complex: The puppet show will tell ?, stories of Johnny _dpleseed, Paul Bunyan and Daniel Boone. The Jewish Center has organized the "Send a Kid to Camp" sponsor- ships which last year helped send 624 children to summer camp. That represents 40 percent of all children attending JCCenter camp pro- grams. Contributions fall into two categories, patron and sponsor. For information, call the Jewish Center, 661-1000. The Center has a volun- teer corps, called the Center Mentors, that is currently Evangelists Target Jews in East Lansing . Michigan State Univer- sity's student newspaper, the State News, published a story on April 22 describing the efforts of the "Jews for Jesus" movement in the East Lansing area. A spokesman for the organization told the State News that it wants to con- vert "1,800 Jews in the East Lansing area.", The group does not have a local chapter in the area but sends evangelists there every two to three weeks. The spokesman claims that three or four Jews convert to the group each week.
