Jewish Cemetery Ruined in France

PARIS (JTA) — The
Jewish cemetery of Bag-
neux on the outskirts of
Paris was desecrated last
Friday night, on the eve of
the French "Deportation
Day" when ceremonies are
held to commemorate those
who died in Nazi concentra:
tion camps in World War II.
Eighty gravestones in the
cemetery were daubed with
swastikas and slogans, such
as "Death to Israel," "Death
to the acid throwers," and
"Revenge for the attack."

Racism called on the coun-
try's next administration to
take all possible steps to
prevent similar attacks
from taking place.

Dr. Eichner Guest Scholar at Sholem Aleichem Weekend

Sholem Aleichem Insti-
tute will host Dr. Margaret
Eichner, associate professor
at the Midrasha, as its
scholar-in-residence today
through Sunday at the But-
zel Conference Center.
During the weekend Dr.
Eichner will speak on "The
History of Anti-Semitism
from the Time of the
Crucifixion" and "Current
Manifestations of Anti-
Semitism."
Dr. Eichner has lectured
extensively throughout the
state on the Holocaust and
the effective methods of
teaching the subject. She
has appeared on local radio
stations speaking on histor-
ical and feminist issues.
