Jewish Center Russian Program
Hosts Concert; Israelis Perform
The Russian Accultura-
tion Program of the Jewish
Community Center an-
nounces a benefit concert to
be given by violinist Mischa
Rachlevsky 7:30 p.m. Sun-
day at the main United He-
brew Schools building.
Proceeds will go the "Novi
Svet" (New World) Club, an
association of Jewish im-
migrants recently arrived
from the Soviet Union.

Melikin
Chicago's
Puppet Theatre will pre-
sent "Johnny, Paul and
Dan'1" 2 p.m. May 3 at the
main Jewish Center,
sponsored by the Center
and the Detroit Institute
of Arts. This series is par-
tially funded by the
Michigan State Legisla-
ture.
Using giant hand and rod
puppets, the Melikins will
unfold the stories of the
great American Legendary
heroes, Johnny Appleseed, '
Paul Bunyan and Daniel
Boone in an original folk
puppet adaptation espe-
cially designed for young
audiences.

The Jewish Center will
offer a drama workshop for
teens and adults taught by
Susan Borofsky, for six
weeks at 7:30 p.m. Tues-
days, beginning May 5.
There also will be a
children's class for youth
age 9-14, the creative
drama workshop, begin-
ning May 6. This work-
shop will meet at 4:30 p.m.
Wednesdays for six
weeks. All workshops
will be held at the main
Center. For information,

Chick Mostow, a 77-
year-old retired mail order
merchandiser who runs 60
miles per week, will partici-
pate in this year's fourth
annual Chai long distance
run, 8:30 a.m. May 17 spon-
sored by the Runner's Club
of the Jewish Center.
Mostow has finished 14
marathons, including those
in Boston and New York, in
the past 40 months. His per-
sonal best is 4:12.08, set in
Los Angeles on July 4.
Mostow was a race walker
for 65 years before he began
long distance running in
September 1977.
Runners can choose from
one, three, six, nine, 12 or 18
mile distances. Each par-
ticipant will receive a
t-shirt, patch and awards.
