Contestants are judged on scholastic achievement, leadership, poise, personal- ity and appearance. There is no swimsuit or talent competition. Francine attends Carman High School and is a member of Flint's Temple Beth El youth group. She is a member of the Carman High School Band and is a volunteer for the March of Dimes. Flint Federation OKs Day Camp The Flint Jewish Federa- tion is making plans to re- sume a summer day camp operation for children age 6-10. It will operate five days a week from July 13 to 24 at Holiday Hills of Camp Copneconic. The proposal, submitted the federation's youth ac- .ties committee under tie chairmanship of Emily Bank, was approved April 1 at a special meeting of the FJF board of dirktors. Those interested in regis- tering for the camp should contact the federation office. r Flint People Make News was Larry Kassel graduated from the Univer- sity of Michigan School of Dentistry. Sophie Shapiro, co- founder of Shapiro's, died April 10 at age 75. Born in Russia, Mrs. Shapiro lived in Flint since 1939. She was a member of Cong. Beth Israel and Hadassah. She resided at 406 Suncrest. Mrs. Shapiro is survived by two sons, Irwin of Grand Blanc and Edward; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Rita) Feinstein and Mrs. James (Barbara) Weisberg; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
