THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 64 Friday, April 11, 1981 Matza of Deliverance Lee, Jerry & Kim Gurwin Wish All Their Friends & Customers (Editor's note: This special prayer was pre- pared and released by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.) This is the Matza of De- liverance. On Passover, at the Seder table, Jews everywhere are enjoined to remember the heart of the stranger, for we were slaves in Egypt. On this Passover, we especially call to mind our Jewish brothers and sis- ters in Ethiopia — Jews who have been oppressed and even sold into slavery. These are the pitiful rem- nants of a once-proud and populous Falasha kingdom, who now survive their trials primarily on the hope of exodus to Israel. This Matza of Deliv- erance symbolizes those in that distant land who have nurtured their Jewish dreams through two thousand years of alternat- ing glory and persecution. Come, said he to his min- ions, let us cut them off from being a people, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more. And they slew the blameless and pure, men and women and little ones, with vapors of poison and burned them with fire. But we abstain from dwelling on the deeds of the evil ones lest we defame the image of God in which man was created. Now, the remnants of our people who were left in the ghettos and camps of annihilation rose up against the wicked ones for the sanctification of the Name, and slew many of them before they died. On the first day of Passover the remnants in the GhettO of Warsaw rose up against the ad- versary, even as in the days of Judah the ,Maccabee. They were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided, and they brought rede- mption to the name of Israel through all the world. And from the depths of their affliction the martyrs lifted their voices in a song of faith in the coming of the Messiah, when jus- tice and brotherhood will reign among men. t `ter 1. 6 1 130 0-1171 ?AlD? :in9tY 'rrt ?te? 1"13/1 1;7 7711 DV; trOm ionintP1 17 31"1"-ItIP rikt Yr:141V DrYI n 32Q P'Pr? 1111*.1 .713.? 3 2613 ifiT nr)) K 47 1.1OrrliD- PP?1 . 01KitM4 13 IryW 7.147t$ 1:117* me) erp Dep) rum - perirrnim;1nitito);1)01/ ru.)'21 rin lv*? br,in Dr); 117 , c1 Enve7 73,4, loniprp) 101:1, 1r.) mq. )11; ior_i 'Tv Ini/ H1291 an 011711 D'?7tql .inVO '??n1 077.14 .1:01? ?7T DI.v?tgl.
