NEW YORK (JTA) —
One of the out-reach efforts
of the Los Angeles school of
the Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of
Religion in 1980 to express
its concern for the plight of
the Indo-Chinese "boat
people" was to sponsor a
Vietnamese family.
The family has been set-
tled and employment has
been found for the father,
who had been temporarily
working at the HUC-JIR.

sponsor its fourth annual
"Chai" long distance run
May 17 beginning at the
main Center building.

Runners of all levels are
invited to participate in dis-
tances of one, three, six,
nine, 12 or 18 "Chai" miles.
This fun run will begin at
8:30 a.m. rain or shine.
T-shirts and awards
will be given to all
entrants. The entry fee
deadline is May 8. Late
registration will be ac-
cepted from 7-7:45 a.m. on
the day of the run at an
extra charge.

The Israeli musical (per-
formed in English) "On
Silver Wings" will be pre-
sented at the main Jewish
Center 8 p.m. April 28.
The production is pre-
sented by Donny Maseng,
Gai Joffe and Terry Fein-
stein. Maseng, born in Is-
rael to American parents,
has several albums to his
credit, has been on the stage
and screen in Israel and has
also toured the U.S. in sev-
eral productions.

Workmen's Circle of
Michigan will present its
38th annual Warsaw
Ghetto memorial program
7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the

Soviet Jews
Aid Cut Blasted

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
The House Appropriations
Committee's subcommittee
for operations has rejected
the Reagan Administra-
tion's proposal to rescind a
$12.5 million appropriation
this year to help Soviet
Jewish refugees settle in Is-
rael. The subcommittee's
action must be approved by
the full committee.
