Cohan was re-elected chairman of the Michigan Cancer Foundation board of directors at its March meet- ing. "The foundation's desig- nation, in cooperation with Wayne State University's School of Medicine, as a comprehensive cancer cen- ter is a major development. It enhances our basic goal of helping people by treating and finding ways of caring for those with cancer," he said. Cohan also emphasized that the foundation's cancer registry, where hundreds of details about each incidence of cancer is reported every year, has the greatest potential for exerting a pos- itive impact upon what we know about cancer and how we might treat and care for cancer patients: "The regis- try is finding out what eco- nomic and geographic groups are affected by specific cancer and at what ages." A member of many charitable boards himself, Cohan expressed concern over the increasing de- mands from more causes for more contributions of both time and financial assis- tance, "Such needs are dif- ficult to meet under any cir- cumstance; but particularly so when both general and state economies are in bad shape," he said.
