Flatto-Sharon Found Guilty in Knesset Election Case

JERUSALEM (JTA) --
Knesset member Shmuel
Flatto-Sharon and his aide,
Jack Benaudis, were con-
victed this week of pre-
election bribery by the
Magistrates Court.
His campaign manager in
the Knesset elections four
years ago, Yaacov Halfon,
was found not guilty.
The Knesset removed
Flatto-Sharon's parliamen-
tary immunity in order for
him to stand trial.
The court found him
and his aide guilty of of-

fering housing at cheap
rental rates, which Sha-
ron's lawyer claimed was
a straight business deal.
But the magistrate ruled
that it was a bribe to
gather votes.
The two were also found
guilty of bribing a local
party list in Dimona.
Flatto-Sharon claimed that
he had merely been doing
what all politicial parties
had done during election
campaigns since the state
was established.
Member
Knesset
Shulamit Aloni, who first
drew attention to the brib-
ery charge, said after the
verdict that all parties
would have to be especially

careful during the current
election campaign.
Flatto-Sharon's election
to the Knesset halted a
French attempt to have him
extradited to stand trial in
Paris on charges of mis-
management of funds and
embezzlement. The French
