The term "Musawi" (fol- lower of Moses, i.e. Jewish) is entered on the identity cards of Jews and they are barred from traveling even to neighboring countries. The Syrian authorities have turned- a deaf ear to re- peated requests for family reunions to the United States. A recent Swiss visitor to Syria reported that racial pressures are growing within Syria for Jewish women to convert and marry Moslems. While all persons in Syria are subject to the arbitrary whim of a lawless regime, Jews know from bitter ex- perience that they have spe- cial reason to feel vulnera- ble.
