Prof. Zvi Yavetz, chair-
man, department of history
and director of the liberal
arts program for overseas
students at Tel Aviv Uni-
versity, will be the guest
speaker.
Prof. Yavetz was one of
the founders of Tel Aviv
University in 1956 and two
years later was appointed
chairman of its history de-
partment.
In 1960, he was made
vice dean of the faculty of
humanities. A noted lec-
turer, Prof. Yavetz has
been a visiting professor
at many of the outstand-
ing educational institu-
tions in the world includ-
ing Harvard, Cornell,
Princeton, Oxford, Rome
and the Sorbonne.

caped from a train carrying
him to an extermination
camp in Hitler's Germany.
Avoiding capture, it took
him two years on foot to
reach Israel. A member of
the Palmach striking force
of Hagana under the British
Mandate, Prof. Yavetz is a
major in the Israeli
mechanized forces.
