France, last week. It was
the second time the team
has won the cup, awarded
each year after matches be-
tween the various national
champions.
During the game, tele- '
vised live in virtually every
Israeli home, the streets of
Tel Aviv were deserted,
theatres closed and public
meetings were postponed.
Following the 80-79 victory,
The streets erupted with
singing youngsters and cars
blaring sirens in defiance of
local by-laws. ,
Psychologists have since
been arguing with each
other and disagreeing in
radio interviews, seeking
an explanation as to why Is-
raelis rejoice in this wild
manner. Explanations
ranged from: "we don't
know how to rejoice" to
theories that this was the
way Israelis let off steam in
a society held down tight by
constant tension.

Pharmaceutical sciences
have gained marked ad-
vancement thanks to the
progress made in the 28-
year history of the School of
Pharmacy of the Hebrew
University in Jerusalem.
Endorsed by the Ameri-
can Pharmaceutical Indus-
try, the scientific labors in
the area of the only Jewish
school of pharmacy in the
world has gained status on
an international basis.
Associate Dean Avrahan
Kreiser was in Detroit re-
cently for a two-day visit to
confer with pharmaceutical
leaders and the deans and
faculty members of the col-
leges of pharmacy at Wayne
State University and the
University of Michigan, and
to enroll cooperation and
support for the Hebrew
University of School of
Pharmacy. A number of De-
troit area supporters of the
Hebrew University have al-
ready been enrolled as
friends of the School of
Pharmacy.
The Jerusalem School
of Pharmacy is a major
component of the
Hadassah-Hebrew Uni-
versity Health Center at
the Ein Karem campus
next to the School of
Medicine, School of De-
ntistry and Hadassah-
Hebrew University Hos-
pital, thus creating a
unity in assuring the
highest standards in
health provisions as well

an emphasis on research,
with resultant accom-
plishments.
"Our school assists in
creating opportunities for
an exchange of knowledge
among the various scientific
groups in the Jerusalem
complex," Kreiser said.
He pointed to the progress
that has been made at the
Jerusalem school in oral
medication research and
the advances attained in
their application.
He pointed out that
great care is maintained
in the dispensing of
drugs, great effect having
been shown in the appli-
cation of the 1978 law
which requires the writ-
ing of prescriptions in
block letters. He said that
while there are drug
addictions, as
everywhere, they are
minimal in the Israel ex-
periences. He said the ef-
fectiveness of Kupat
Holim, the Histadrut
health providing force,
which serves more then
80 percent of the people
of Israel, contributes
towards such a healthy
state of affairs.
Women are increasingly
entering the pharmaceuti-
cal field, Kreiser said. Of
the School of Pharmacy
enrollment of 250, 65 of
them first year students, 46
percent are women.
At present there are 10
masters students and 11
doctoral candidates in this
