AJC Report Finds Saudi Strong Opposition to Peace

NEW YORK — Saudi
Arabia has hardened rather
than moderated its opposi-
tion to the American inter-
est in strengthening Arab
support for the Camp David
process as a framewoek for
Arab-Isareli understand-
ing, according to a report is-
sued last week by the
American Jewish Commit-

The report, 13ehind The
Islamic Facade" explains
how three myths, of Islamic
solidarity, Arab unity and
Saudi moderation were re-
futed at the recent third Is-
lamic Summit Conference
in Taif, Saudi Arabia.
"American expectation,"
the report said, "expressed
by the Carter Administra-
tion in 1978, that approval
of the sale of advanced
weapons to Saudi Arabia
would help win Saudi sup-
port of the American-
sponsored Middle East
process remains unfulfilled.
The Saudis not only failed to
support the peace process,
but have joined the Arab ex-
tremists in rejecting and
even undermining it.
The Arab states at the
Islamic summit were also
sharply divided among
themselves, according to

the report, although the
efforts of Saudi Arabia,.
chief financial supporter
and prime mover of the
conference, to bring
some semblance of Arab
unity to the gathering
"were partially suc-
cessful."
All Arab states with the
exception of Egypt and
Libya attended. Syria gave
in to Saudi pressure and
came to Taif, the heads of
state of Morocco and
Algeria publicly shook

"Let All Who Are Hungry Come And Eat ...
And Celebrate The Passover."

The traditions of Passover are not
only ancient but beautiful. Just as im-
portant, they are as relevant today as
they were centuries ago. And inviting all
those who are hungry to come and eat
has become a hallmark of the Jewish
way of life.
Preparing fine Jewish food has al-
ways been the hallmark of Manischewitz.

For almost a century, we have been
helping families honor Passover with an
array of delicious products specially pre-
pared for this festive occasion. And we
like to feel that, in some way, we add to
the joyousness of the holiday.
Happy Passover!
