NEW YORK (JTA) — The Moral Majority, which is headed by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, declared that "One cannot belong to Moral Majority Inc. without mak- ing the commitment to sup- port the state of Israel in its battle for survival and to support the human and civil rights of Jewish people everywhere. No anti- Semitic influence is allowed in Moral Majority Inc." That statement was con- tained in a full page adver- tisement in The New York Times explaining "how Moral Majority Inc. stands on today's vital issues." The paragraph on Israel said: "We support the state of Israel and Jewish people everywhere. It is impossible to separate the state of Is- rael from the Jewish family internationally. Many Moral Majority Inc. mem- bers, because of their theological convictions, are committed to the Jewish people. "Others stand upon the human and civil rights of all persons as a premise for support of the state of Israel. Others support Israel be- cause of historical and legal arguments."
