Rockwell Corp. Pays Fine for Alleged Boycott Complicity Moral Majority Backs Israel

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Rockwell International
Corp. of Pittsburgh has
agreed to pay a civil penalty
of $71,000 for 127 alleged

violations of the federal
laws against the Arab
boycott against Israel and
U.S. firms doing business
with Israel.

merce said that most of the
alleged violations occurred
at the company's facilities
in West Germany and Great
Britian and "were dis-
covered by the Rockwell
parent through an internal
audit."

was blacklisted by the
importing country.
The countries involved in
asking for certifications
were s reported as Jordan,
the United Arab Emirates,
Saudi Arabia, Bahrein,
Kuwait and Oman. The
majority of them were from
Saudi Arabia, the depart-
ment said.

is headed by the Rev. Jerry
Falwell, declared that "One
cannot belong to Moral
Majority Inc. without mak-
ing the commitment to sup-
port the state of Israel in its
battle for survival and to
support the human and civil
rights of Jewish people
everywhere. No anti-
Semitic influence is allowed
in Moral Majority Inc."
That statement was con-
tained in a full page adver-
tisement in The New York
Times explaining "how
Moral Majority Inc. stands
on today's vital issues." The

paragraph on Israel said:

"We support the state of
Israel and Jewish people
everywhere. It is impossible
to separate the state of Is-
rael from the Jewish family
internationally. Many
Moral Majority Inc. mem-
bers, because of their
theological convictions, are
committed to the Jewish
people.

"Others stand upon the
human and civil rights of all
persons as a premise for
support of the state of Israel.
Others support Israel be-
cause of historical and legal
arguments."

ship chairmen from
throughout the U.S. and
Canada, held at the Israeli
Bond national offices in
New York.
Stein is a graduate of the
Detroit College of Law and a
member of Birmingham
Temple. In accepting his
new post, Stein declared
that "the challenge of build-
ing the undeveloped areas
of Israel, especially the
Negev, is enormous and it is
fitting that the younger
leaders in our community
should be•deeply involved in
the Israel Bond campaign
which is so vital to Israel's
future."
Stein has already
begun actively recruiting
his co-ordinating com-
mittee. Members to date
include Denise Alexan-
der, Audrey and William
Farber, Jonathan
Holtzman, Scott Jacob-
son, Greg Orley, Gary
Sakwa, Steve Shapiro
and Steve Shaye.
The New Leadership Di-
vision has grown rapidly
since its founding in 1975
and is active in 52 com-
munities in the U.S. and
Canada, reaching
thousands of young people.
Its Sabra Society, which
honors purchasers of a
minimum of $1,000 in Israel
Bonds, was headed last year
by song writer Marvin
Hamlisch. Current Sabra
Society chairman is TV per-
sonality Gabe Kaplan.
