Its "information coordinator" there, iden- tified as James Hickstrom, published a pamphlet in July 1980 ti- tled, "American Farmer: 20th Century Slave." The pamphlet claimed that Jews congenitally are unable to farm and there- fore conspire to control the world's food supply by conspiring to control the international mone- tary system. It also claimed that Jesus was not a Jew and that the Holocaust never oc- curred. The latter allegation has become a major theme of neo-Nazi and anti-Semitic propaganda circulated world-wide. Bronson Lafollet, Wis- consin attorney general, de- scribed "Posse Comitatus" as a "self-styled, para- militaristic fundamentalist Christian organization," 'according to a recent report in the Milwaukee Journal. According to ADL Informa- tion Coordinator Mortimer Katz, its membership is largely rural and made up of "Klan types" and former members of the Minute Men, a far rightwing anti- Semitic vigilante organiza- tion active in the 1960s. He said there was a frequent shifting of membership be- tween the Ku Klux Klan, the American Nazi Party, "Posse Comitatus" and similar violence-oriented groups. Jewish leaders reacted to the assassination attempt against President Reagan with urgent appeals for ac- tion to bar such' terrorism and with requests for con- trol of handguns. Prayers were offered by American Jews for the President's early and complete re- covery. Bertram Gold, execu- tive vice president of the American Jewish Com- mittee, expressed . the hope that the attempt to kill the President "will encourage us, as a nation, to reverse this uncivilized style of heightened vio- lence." Squadron, Howard president of the American Jewish Congress, said that the attack on the President PASSOVER 1981 at the HOTEL OF MIAMI BEACH 7111 lt93 Wel) The Most Luxurious Kosher Miami Beach Package this Passover AT AFFORDABLE PRICES f mrn $689 per person CHILDREN $20 FER DAY INFANTS FREE Sedorim conducted by the renowned Cantor Martin Davidson • 3 gourmet meals daily • 2 traditional Seders • Sauna & health club • Fresh & salt water pools • Tennis • Nightly entertainment featuring Jo Amar, the Duo Reim and Lou Mason Aid latuAbv TRIRCEMASTERS 1140 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10001 (212) 689-7600 / 800-223-7676 ' COSTA CRUISES 1 1 1 1 1 7 Day Holiday S/S Amerikanis T/S Flavia VT Eastern Airlines Ft. Ivan Novick, president of the Zionist Organization of America, said, "the assas- sin's bullets once again re- mind us that the world is consumed with hatred and that violence and terrorism, by groups or individuals, must be outlawed by the civilized community." Rabbi Arthur Lelyveld, president of the Synagogue Council of America, said the assassination attempt made it necessary for the Ameri- can people to "soberly re- examine the security pro- visions for the safety of our leaders." He also said there must be a renewal of the search "for rational solu- tions to the continuing menace of violence in our land." Rabbi Sol Roth, president of the Rabbini- cal Council of America, an Orthodox group, called on all Americans to go to their houses of worship and to pray for the President's rapid re- covery. Rabbi Benjamin - Kreit- man, executive vice president of the (Conserva- tive) United Synagogue of America, said the assassi- nation attempt had "aroused the Jewish come, munity to the growing threat of violence on the American scene." He "the that warned availability and accessibil- ity of firearms, and particu- larly handguns, help to fuel crime and brutality." Rabbi William Ber- kowitz, president of, the Jewish National Fund of America, sent a message to Mrs. Reagan from Grossin- gers, N.Y.) where a JNF as- sembly was being held. He declared that the JNF "ex- presses its profound shock and dismay at the senseless and tragic violence which has once again struck our nation." Berkowitz read to the delegates a message from President Reagan Declar- ing that the JNF, "as the Both Gillet and Milan admitted having spread hate literature but told the Nice criminal court that they were not anti-Semites "but only anti-Zionists." The two denied responsibil- ity for the threatening let- ters received by 54 people last year. The letters warned the leaders "to stop Jewish activities" or "blood will run." They were signed "the new fascist generation. One god only: Adolf Hitler." The prosecution asked for eight months imprisonment for Milan, six for Gillet, and suspended sentences for some of their relatives who helped them hide the evi- dence. and the United States." Among other national leaders who sent messages to the President, Premier Menahem Begin of Israel reacted with "shock." Foreign Minister Yitihak Shamir sent a cablegram to the President, expressing "shock at the attempt on the life of the leader of the Free World" and Israel's wishes for a "speedy recovery."
