JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
Israeli Deputy Defense
Minister Mordecai Zippori
said in a recent radio inter-
view that Israel has been
watching carefully how 12
well-equipped Iraqi di-
visions have failed to defeat
a poorly-organized and
equipped Iranian militia.
Zippori added that Israel
is in one of its best military
positions because of inter-
nal crises in Syria and the
stationing of a major seg-
ment of the Syrian army in
Lebanon.

"Preparing for Sabbath"
by Nessa Rapoport (William
Morrow) is the story of a
young woman's search to
find both God and love.
Judith Rafael is first seen
as a young girl, already de-
voutly Jewish but filled
with a longing for a more
intense life. Then she meets
Ori and his sister Jessie.
Drawn by Ori's imagina-
tion, Judith crosses
America with them and
travels to England.
Still not content with her
life, she follows Jessie to
Jerusalem where she must
face the conflict between
her spiritual yearning and
her need for love.
"Preparing for Sabbath"
is Nessa Rapoport's first
novel. The author was born
in Toronto and currently
lives in New York, where
she works as a senior editor
in a publishing house.
