Ex-Jerusalem Post Editor Lea Ben Dor Is Dead at 68 JERUSALEM (JTA) — Lea Ben Dor, a former editor of the Jerusalem Post whose relatively hawkish views and acerbic commen- tary on events in the Knes- set were widely respected, though not always shared by her colleagues, died last week at age 68. She was associated with Israel's secret service dur- ing the early years of state- hood and at one point took a three-year leave of absence from the Post to work in the prime minister's office. Mrs. Ben Dor was the daughter of George Hal- pern, a prominent Zionist from Germany who was one of the founders of the Bank Leumi and the Migdal Mi- nyan Insurance Co. She often recounted to friends her memories of visits to her father's home by Chaim Weizmann, the first president of Israel, and other Zionist leaders. She was educated at Roedean, a prestigious girls school in England, and at Cambridge and London universities. She joined the Palestine Post, as the newspaper was known before 1948, in the middle 1930s and took leave during World War II to serve with the British Army in Egypt. During the 1950s and 1960s her influence was strongly felt at the Post. She and then-editor Ted Lurie The Officers and Board of the Jewish National Fund mourn the passing of Rose Zuckerman, beloved mother of Paul Zuc- kerman, a past JNF honoree, a member of the JNF Board of Directors, and chairman of the JNF National Committee for the Hubert H. Humphrey Parkway in Israel. Rose Zuckerman was a multi-faceted communal leader who labored tirelessly and successfully on behalf of her people, her country and of Israel. She was a founder of the original Ladies Auxiliary of JNF. Her brilliant career was a source of inspiration to her son Paul, and to her other children and grandchildren. , Her achievements will not soon be forgotten. We express our condolences to her family who were pro- foundly enriched by her life and her attainments. Rabbi William Berkowitz, President Dr. Samuel-I. Cohen, Ex.
