Honoree Berenholz, in 1978, while he was the con- gregation's president, was the recipient of the state of Israel's 30th Anniversary Award at the annual Bnai David Tribute Dinner on behalf of Israel Bonds. Born in Poland, he was attending mechanical engineering school at the beginning of the Holocaust. He escaped to Russia and returned to try to convince his parents to leave Poland.
