THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Denaturalization Set for Two Charged With War Crimes PHILADELPHIA (JTA) — Federal District Court -:,,,_ judges in Philadelphia and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tuesday stripped U.S. citi- zenship from two Ukranian-born men who had lied about their partici- pation in Nazi concentra- tion camps during World # War II in order to gain ad- mission into the United States. In the U.S. District Court ore, Judge Louis C. Bech- ordered that Wolodymir sidach, a 76-year-old re- tired Philadelphia slaughterhouse worker, be denaturalized. In Fort Lauderdale, Judge Norman C. Roettger issued a de- naturalization order for Feodor Federenko, 73, of Miami, who was accused of concealing his role as a Uk- ranian guard in the Treb- linka Concentration Camp. In the Philadelphia case, Osidach was tried in a non-jury civil action here last fall. He was ac- cused of concealing his role as an officer in the Ukrainian police force, a force which actively helped the Nazis send Jews to their deaths, in order to enter this coun- try in 1949 and later to ob- tain citizenship. Bishop Calls for Jews and Catholics to Work Together A leading American Catholic prelate has declared that "Catholics and Jews can today work and dialogue and never before in all the ages of our often troubled and yet still common his- tory." The Most Rev. John Roach, newly-elected president of the National Conference of Bishops, U.S. Catholic Conference, told the Synagogue Council of America that "Today, through dialogue, Chris- tians are coming to realize that many of our previous assumptions about the na- ture of Judaism were, to put it kindly, wrong." Roach, who is Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, told the Synagogue Council, the first Jewish group he addressed since his election- as president of the National Conference of Bishops, "It must be. admitted, in deep sorrow, that what the Sec- ond Vatican Council called the 'spiritual bond' linking our two peoples tended to NEW YORK (JTA) — Appeal Made for Wallenberg BONN (JTA) — The Stockholm-based Raoul Wallenberg Association has called on President Reagan to help free the man who, on the request of President Roosevelt, was sent to Budapest in 1944 to save Jews from the Nazi invad- ers. In a letter addressed to the White House this week, the Association said, refer- ring to Wallenberg: "He saved 100,000 and was captured by the Soviets in January 1945. Although the Soviets claimed Raoul died in 1947, he is still lan- guishing in Gulag. Accord- ing to recent information his state of health is alarm- ing, so please use your power and make him a main issue in deals with the Soviet Union." If Wallenberg is alive, he would be 68 years old.
