peace, it was announced by
David B. :Holtzman, Metro
Detroit Israel Bond general
chairman.
Currently a special repre-
sentative of the Ministry of
Finance, Flesch will discuss
with these leaders the many
aspects of Israel's economic
needs and solicit their sup-
port through the Bond pro-
gram.
"By virtue of Flesch's
mission to Detroit, the
Ministry of Finance recog-
nizes the importance of our
Jewish community — a
community that has always
faithfully supported the
economic growth of the
Jewish nation. Today, faced
with problems of inflation, a
still-insufficient export
market, and a crushing oil
bill — $2.5 billion a year —
resulting from the relin-
quishing of the Sinai oil
fields; Israel needs, more
than ever before, strong
economic partners to help
her build a more stable eco-
nomic future," said
Holtzman.
Flesch came to Israel in
1933 from Vienna, where
he studied law, and im-
mediately volunteered
for service in the Hagana.
He played an important
part in modernizing
sports and athletics and
soon got involved in polit-
ical activities.
Prior to the establish-
ment of the state of Israel he
was elected to the Assefat
Hanivcharim, the represen-
tative body of Jewry under
the British.
Elected to the Knesset in
1951, he became a member
of the Foreign Affairs and
Defense Committee and is
considered one of Israel's
top authorities in the field of
foreign affairs.
Flesch was a top-flight
athlete, participating in in-
ternational swimming
meets, including the Olym-
pics and European cham-
pionships.
From 1971-1977, Flesch
