`Last Metro' Screened Here in August for Film Theater

The Detroit Film Theater
will show Francois Truf-
faufs, "The Last Metro," a
film about France during
the Nazi occupation Aug.
7-9 and 14-16 in the Detroit
Institute of Arts au-
ditorium.
The DFT has exclusive
first-run rights to the film
locally.
"The Last Metro," which
follows the fortunes • of a
Parisian theater troupe
during the occupation, deals
with French anti-Semitism.
The villain is patterned on
Alain Laubreaux, a French

drama critic who eagerly
served the Nazis and fled
with them to Germany after
the liberation of Paris.

Deneuve, continues to oper-
ate the theater in his sup-
posed absence and visits
him covertly. Meanwhile,
he is able to listen to rehear-
sals through a utilities duct
and relays his instructions
through her to the director.

According to the New
York Times, "The Last
Metro" dramatizes a
situation in which a
Jewish impresario and
director, played by Heinz
Bennent, who is thought
to have fled into the
Vichy zone, is in fact in
hiding in the cellar of his
theater.

Cairo to Have
Kosher Eatery

TEL AVIV (JTA) — An
Israeli-owned fully kosher
restaurant is to open at the
Egyptian-government
owned I•tercontinental-
Savoy Hotel in Cairo
shortly.
Moshe Paritzky, a former
resident of Cairo, said he
and his partner had been
told 64 members of the
Jewish community in Cairo
that the government would
never allow it.
But he said agreement
was speedily reached with
the hotel management
which welcomed the idea as
it would attract many
American Jewish tourists.
Paritzky said the invest-
ment was small, as he would
merely be purchasing new
equipment and sending a
rabbi-shochet (ritual
slaughterer) who would act
as supervisor, and two Is-
raeli cooks, one for "West-
ern" dishes and the other for
Oriental meals.

erationally.
The first 60 tanks were
supplied by Eastern Euro-
pean countries via Syria at
the beginning of 1980, and
the last 20 were delivered
recently through Hungary,
Israeli military sources
said. The tanks are concen-
trated in the Palestinie Lib-
eration Organization's
Palestine Liberation Army
area near Sidon on the
Mediterranean coast just
north of the area controlled
by the United Nations
Interim Forces in Lebanon
(UNIFIL).
In addition to the tanks,
the PLO has also obtained
about 100 artillery pieces,
heavy mortars and'
Katyusha rocket launchers,
of Soviet, French and North
Korean manufacture.
The sources said the PLO
had also begun training
some of its men in aviation
and the manning of anti-
aircraft batteries. Pilots
and ground staff are trained
in Eastern Europe, Libya
and Uganda.
