Ex-Detroiter Saul Padover;
Famous Political Scientist

NEW YORK — Dr. Saul
K. Padover, author of more
than 30 books, many of
them on Thomas Jefferson
and Karl Marx, and profes-
sor of political science since
1949 at the New School for
Social Research, died Feb.
22 at age 75.
A former Detroiter, Dr.
Padover was an Assistant
Secretary of the Interior
from 1938 to 1943. He lec-
tured abroad, nationally
' in Detroit.
uring World War II, Dr.
Padover served with the
Office of Strategic Services.
President Hariy S. Truman
awarded him the Bronze
Star with five battle stars.
He was graduated from
Wayne (State) University
in 1928 and did graduate
work at Yale University
and at the University of

Anna Raginsky Dead at 90
MONTREAL (JTA) —
Anna Raginsky, a legan-
dary figure in the Canadian
Hadassah-WIZO move-
ment, has died at age 90.
Her involvement in
Zionism began in 1908 and
in 1911 she was elected first
vice president of the To-
ronto Zionist Council. In
1917, Mrs. Raginsky helped
organize the first chapter of
Canadian Hadassah and
was elected its vice
president in 1921.
From 1941 to 1947 she
served as national president
and remained active
throughout her life as hon-

Feigenbaum Dies
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
One of the grand old men of
Israeli medicine, Prof. Arye
Feigenbaum, died in
Jerusalem last weekend at
age 96.
Dr. Feigenbaum was a
pioneer ophthalmologist.
He came to Palestine in
1913 to head the eye de-
partment at the Strauss
Medical Center. When the
center was taken over by
Hadassah, Feigenbaum
became head of ophthal-
mology at Hadassah.
His life-long work in eye
diseases helped to reduce
the incidence of trachoma
and acute seasonal
ophthalmia in Palestine.
The author of numerous
papers and books on
medicine, he wrote "The
the first Hebrew text
on ophthalmology.
Shep Fields,
Band Leader
LOS ANGELES — Shep
Fields, a band leader who
gained fame during the Big
Band era, died Feb. 23 at
age 70.
Mr. Fields and his Rippl-
ing Rhythm Orchestra
made more than 300 records
and performed in hundreds
of radio broadcasts.

She held leading posi-
tions in the Montreal Coun-
cil of Women, National
Council of Women, Cana-
dian Jewish Congress,
Jewish General Hospital
and the Joint Distribution
Committee. She was also
honorary president of the
Jewish National Fund of
Canada.
In
her
honor,
Hadassah-WIZO estab-
lished a women's club in
Ashkelon, Israel building in
the Hasidic youth village in
Israel, both of which bear
her name.
Henry R.
Fassberg
Henry R. Fassberg, re-
tired draftsman with the
Chrysler engineering de-
partment, died Feb. 24 at
age 70.
A native Detroiter, Mr.
Fassberg worked at
Chrysler Corp. for 38 years.
He retired eight years ago.
He was a member of Per-
fection Lodge of the Masons,
Cong. Beth Achim and Pis-
gah Lodge of Bnai Brith.
He is survived by his wife,
Nena; two daughters, Mrs.
Alvin (Sharon) Silverstein
of East Brunswick, N.J.,
and Mrs. Mark (Judie)
Shopnick; a brother,
Charles; and five
grandchildren.

Dr. Morris Foster, a pro-
fessor of genetics and bi-
ology at the University of
Michigan for 23 years, died
Feb. 23 in Mexico. He was
61.
Born in New York, Dr.
Foster lived 23 years in Ann
Arbor. He was graduated
from Columbia University,
where he earned master's
and doctorate degrees in
genetics and biology.
He worked for 11/2 years
for the Public Health Serv-
ice in Chicago and at Yale
University for three years
prior to coming to U-M.
He was an associate
member and past trea-
surer of the Jewish Cul-
tural School in Ann Ar-
bor. He was an active
member of many national
science societies. Dr. Fos-
ter served on the advi-
sory council of the Insti-
tute of Laboratory Ani-
mal Resources.
He was a member of the
National Academy of Sci-
ence and Research Council.
He worked on behalf of the
Allied Jewish Campaign
and the St. Joseph Hospital
building campaign and was
a fellow of the American
Association for the Ad-
vancement of Science.
Celia Benjamin
Celia Benjamin, a
member of Jewish women's
organizations, died Feb. 25
at age 68.
Born in New York City,
Mrs. Benjamin lived 30
years in the Detroit area.
She was on the board and
membership committee of
Knob Woods Chapter of
Women's American ORT.
She was a member of
Keidan Chapter of Bnai
Brith and was a volunteer
at Sinai Hospital.
She was in retail sales
and worked at the Town and
Country Shop and Cardinal
Shop.
Mrs. Benjamin leaves her
husband, Sidney; a son,
Frederick; and two
grandchildren. Services

Nathan Krause
Nathan (Nate) Krause,
president and owner of
White Tower Industrial
Laundry, died Feb. 23 at age
66.
Born in New York, Mr.
Krause lived 62 years in De-
troit. He was a World War II
veteran and was a sergeant
in Army intelligence.
He was a member of
Zager Lodge of Bnai Brith,
Cong. Beth Achim, City of
Hope and the Oakland Uni-
versity President's Club.
He is survived by his wife,
Sylvia; a daughter, Mrs.
Kerry (Fransene) Nagle; a
