Kotler, a native of Tel Aviv and a former medic in the Israel Defense Forces, was selected for a rigorous MDA training course to qualify as a paramedic, staf- fing the MDA mobile inten- sive care ambulances. Dr. Eugene Nagel, chairman of ARMDI Medi- cal Committee and "father" of the MDA Paramedic Service, arranged for Kotler to serve with the Seattle Emergency Medical Sys- tem. He was also given a battery of tests to meas- ure his standard of per- formance as compared to the highly-rated Seattle paramedics. On every level, his MDA training, knowledge and technical proficiency were judged equal to his Seattle coun- terparts by that city's EMS experts.
