in U.S. Tests
NEW YORK — Doron
Kotler, the highest-scoring
student in the first graduat-
ing class of the new
Paramedic Training Pro-
gram of Magen David Adom
(MDA), Israel's Red Cross
Service, was in the United
States recently to study
Emergency Medical Sys-
tems (EMS).
Kotler, a native of Tel
Aviv and a former medic in
the Israel Defense Forces,
was selected for a rigorous
MDA training course to
qualify as a paramedic, staf-
fing the MDA mobile inten-
sive care ambulances.
Dr. Eugene Nagel,
chairman of ARMDI Medi-
cal Committee and "father"
of the MDA Paramedic
Service, arranged for Kotler
to serve with the Seattle
Emergency Medical Sys-
tem.
He was also given a
battery of tests to meas-
ure his standard of per-
formance as compared to
the highly-rated Seattle
paramedics. On every
level, his MDA training,
knowledge and technical
proficiency were judged
equal to his Seattle coun-
terparts by that city's
EMS experts.
Meanwhile, the New
York Law School has an-
nounced that it will grant
academic credit to students
who hand in appropriate
legal research papers on in-
ternational law that could
form the basis for
arguments to recognize the
Magen David Adorn by the
International Red Cross.
Workmen Circle Protests to Reagan
NEW YORK — President
Reagan has been asked to
withdraw the name of Er-
nest Lefever as Assistant
Secretary of State for
Human Rights and
Humanitarian Affairs by
the workmen's Circle.
Citing Lefever's public
opposition to America's
human rights policies, the
organization, in a letter to
the President, said that "to
caricaturize American
foreign policy by installing
a person who sneers at our
concern for human rights is
hardly demonstrating that
our anti-totalitarian con-
cerns are genuine."

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Five Jewish leaders are
among the 17 national lead-
ers of Protestant and Jewish
organizations who, angered
by what they called
President Reagan's refusal
to meet with them on the
abortion issue, have re-
submitted their request for
an audience, calling abor-
tion "perhaps the most
threatening issue to unity"
in the United States.
They are Rabbi Alexan-
der Schindler, president of
the (Reform) Union of
American Hebrew Congre-
gations; Lillian Maltzer,
president of the (Reform)
National Federation of
Temple Sisterhoods; Chaie
Herzig, co-president of the
women's division of the
American Jewish Congress;
Goldie Kweller, president of
the Women's League for
Conservative Judaism; and
Edna Wolfe, executive di-
rector of Bnai Brith Women.
