Rothschild Prizes to 2 Companies JERUSALEM (JNI) — This year, for the first time, all 12 winners of the Rothschild Prizes for Indus- trial Development were completely Israel-educated. The winners, graduates of .Lie Technion, Hebrew Uni- versity, Tel Aviv University and the ORT Vocational High School, represent the Elscint and Motorola Israel companies. The Israeli branch of Motorola marketed a com- puterized irrigation system that simultaneously waters and fertilizes fields. Motorola, which exported the computer to several Mediterraneancountries and the U.S. in 1979, be- lieves a "new, untapped market" exists for them at thousands of U.S. golf courses. The Elscint employees will be cited for the de- velopment of a "com- puterized tomograph," which produces three- dimensional scans, more effective than X-rays in locating cystic tissues in the human body. President Yitzhak Navon will present the fourth an- nual $5,000 prizes to Elscint and Motorola. Praise for Begin LONDON — During a private visit to Egypt, fornier Israeli ambassador to the United Nations Chaim Herzog and his wife had a private, one-hour audience with President Anwar Sadat. Sadat is reported to have said that despite their differences Begin always kept his word. Herzog and his Egyptian-born wife spent seven days in Egypt. They were unable to visit the house where they cele- brated their engagement, however. It is now the Saudi Arabian embassy. - PLO, Leftists in El Salvador Share Goals BEIRUT — Palestinian rorists and leftist gueril- in El Salvador share the same goals, according to an ,interview with an uniden- tified Salvadoran guerilla in Al Liwa, a newspaper which has close ties to the Palestine Liberation Organization. The interview quoted the Central American as saying "We and the Palestinian revolution are in the same trench fighting the same enemy." , Not long ago the Yosi brothers of Tel Aviv, two Soviet Jews who had emi- grated to Israel, decided to apply their mechanical engineering training to the jewelry business. In seeking to maximize their limited supply of gold and find new ways of making chains, they came up with a new process for making lighter-weight rope chains of the 14-karat gold. The new chain is both at- tractive and durable; it also has the advantage of look- ing like a far more expen- sive item than it is. And it is selling very well in Israelis Treated for Hypertension Bloomingdale's in New York and J.C. Penney in Los Angeles. The same Yosi brothers also offer rope chains in something brand new — nine-karat gold. This discovery comes from the Nobel Metals Research Center in Haifa, which has developed a secret alloy which enables Is- raeli jewelers to produce nine-karat gold jewelry — and make it look and feel (almost) like 18. You can't buy it in the U.S.; American law forbids the sale of nine-karat gold items. But soon you can buy it in Israel — and there's no law against wearing it in the U.S. Friday, February 13, 1981 5 lbs. of MATZO, If I can't Beat Your Best Deal Margolis Household Furniture 6 Mile, 1 BIk. Israeli Tank a Product of Arab Threats TEL AVIV (JTA) — Is- rael's decision to design and produce its Merkava battle tank was the result of Brit- ain's withdrawal of an agreement to supply Israel with modern° Chieftain tanks, according to Maj. Gen. (Res.) Israel Tal, in- itiator of the Israeli tank. Tal told a Tel Aviv Uni- versity forum that the British had agreed in 1966 to supply Israel with a number of Chieftain. tanks, but under Arab pressure and terrorist threats to at- tack British embassies abroad, the British in De- cember 1969 suddenly withdrew their agreement.
