Nearly 2,000 metropoli- tan area residents attended the event, which was co- sponsored by the Heart of Gold Award Council and Women for the United Foundation (WUF). Dr. Last began his volun- teer work many years ago at the former Beth Aaron Synagogue, serving as its first president and later as executive director of its religious school for 18 years. Most recently, Dr. Last has been responsible for establishing an emer- gency dental clinic for Southfield senior citizens which opens this wbek. A retired dentist, he has collected the equipment for the office and re- cruited other dentists to help him in the clinic. Mrs. Deutch has been a member of Zedakah Club, a ladies service group that administers direct finan- cial, physical, social and personal assistance to indi- gent families or individuals in the Detroit area, since its inception more than 50 years ago. She has done every job and held every office from clean-up to the presidency. Presently, she is casework supervisor, assessing the needs of people they help who also may be sick or handicapped, old and alone. As chairman of the. League of Jewish Women Cooperative Council, Mrs. Deutch has been instru- mental in raising funds for an additional bus to trans- port residents of the Federa- tion Apartments in South- field.
