Born in Tel Aviv in 1946, Kalichstein came to New York at the age of 16 as a scholarship student at the Juilliard School. His international career was launched in 1969 when he won first prize in the Leventritt In- ternational Piano Competition. Since then Kalichstein has per- formed with the Cleve- land Orchestra, the Chicago, London, Bos- ton, and Vienna Sym- phony Orchestras, and the Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, and Israel Philharmonics. Since he was catapulted to international promi- nence at the age of 18 as winner of the coveted Queen Elizabeth of Belgium Competition, Laredo has toured Europe and has ap- peared with major United States orchestras. A principal figure at the Marlboro Music Festival for many years, Laredo founded and serves as artis- tic director of New York's acclaimed "Chamber Music at the 'Y' " Series. Ms. Robinson appeared with the Houston Sym- phony, Pittsburgh Sym- phony, Baltimore Sym- phony and New Orleans Philharmonic among others. Winner of the 1979 Avery Fisher Award and a recital in Lincoln Center's "Great Performers" Series, she has been heard in reci- tal in every major United States city and has per- formed throughout Great Britain, France, Italy, Is- rael, Spain and Portugal.
