You send it back and order Italian lressing in- stead and it's petty boring. But three tin es before you've bit into your last shred of lettuc3, Rodney waltzes by aski ig if you're finished. He's followed by Linda who want, to know if everything is alright so far. Rodney finally grabs your salad plate and refills your glass of ice water which you haven't touched. By this time, the tuna and wine by candlelight at home is starting to look pretty good. You and your partner have been too busy talking to Linda, Rodney and the cocktail waitress to ex- change two words with each other. You have been called upon to make a deci- sion between the baked potato plain, the baked potato with sour cream and chives or the rice. There are absolutely no substitutes — not even Stove Top Stuffing. The striped bass isn't bad but it's rich and you're thinking you might have been better off with the ten- derloin tips. Besides, Linda keeps asking if you like your dinner and you don't 542-9196 FOR 25 TO 300 • Showers •Bar Mitzvas •All Parties • Anniversaries Weddings •Bat Mitzvas •Reunions • Banquets OPEN MON. You're afraid to stop eating because Rodney will grab your plate away. When you decide you want coffee, Linda and Rod- ney disappear. You ask any waitress who passes by if she can find Linda. You wait 15 minutes. Linda fi- nally returns and asks if you want cream with your coffee. You ask for an artifi- cial sweetener and she in- sists it's in your sugar bowl. It isn't. By the time your cof- fee is cold, your waitress fi- nally brings the sweetener. Now you have to make a decision about drinking chilly coffee . or waiting an- other 15 minutes for a cup of hot, fresh caffeine. But Linda isn't pushing a second cup of coffee. She's offering a tray of French pastries and describing the ingredients in great detail. You shake your head "no" but she keeps on with her monologue, hoping to break down your will power. She also suggests a variety of after dinner drinks but coffee isn't among them. As you re- fuse, Linda is sizing you up as el cheapo with a tip to match. Forget the cof- fee. Rodney isn't even fil- ling up your water glas- ses anymore. Linda finds it easier to carry your bill than to pour a cup of coffee. When you look at the price, you wish you'd have ordered a stiff after-dinner drink. No mat- ter how you figure it, the tab is $40 plus tip. As you leave, the three hostesses smile in unison- and purr, "You all come back now." They don't ask you if you enjoyed your dinner and that's just as well. Your super evening- is topped off by the parking attendant who drives your car from the front of the res- taurant to the door and holds out his hand for a $1 tip. You've got a headache and indigestion and it cost you $40 plus tip to relax. That's one restaurant you can scratch off your list. Has this ever happened to you?
