German Arms for Saudis?
BONN (JTA) — Opposi-
tion seems to be mounting
to plans by West Germany
to equip Saudi Arabia with
the new German-made
Leopard II tanks and other
military materiel. While
the Saudis contend that the
arms shipments had been
promised by Chancellor
Helmut. Schmidt, the vete-
ran Social Democratic
leader Herbert Wehner said
that no majority for the deal
is expected in the Bundes-
tag faction of the ruling So-
cial Democratic Party
(SDP).

Funeral Director Will Address
Jewish Association for Retarded
The Jewish Association
for Retarded Citizens will
hold its winter general
meeting, open to the public,
at 8 p.m. Feb. 19 at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris
Branch of the Jewish Corn-
munity CerAer.
David Techner, a funeral
director with Ira Kaufman
Chapel, will discuss "Death
and Dying and the Re-
tarded," an issue he has
explored with residents and
staff of JARC's Haverim
Homes. He will share those
experiences, as well as offer
guidance to parents and
professionals.
Techner, chairman of the
Education and PubliC In-
formation Committee of the
Michigan Funeral Directors
Association, has presented
the subject of death and
dying in many settings,
from nursery and religious
schools to nursing homes
and senior citizen groups.
At a monthly cof-
feehouse for residents of
the Haverim Homes,
Techner spoke about
Jewish funeral practices,
customs and beliefs.
Residents then had an
opportunity to express
their own feelings on a
subject that rarely has
been discussed with re-
tarded persons. Techner
also hopes to meet with
them individually.
For information, call the
JeWish Association for Re-
tarded Citizens, 557-7650.
